Introduction to SharePoint

SharePoint is a development platform solution that provides organizations with Enterprise Content Management (ECM), collaboration, data management capabilities and also provides a plethora of other functionalities that organizations need in order to develop real business solutions at a reasonable cost.

This workshop is designed to make you understand and discover the key components and capabilities of SharePoint 2007 and 2010. You will get trained on the key aspects of SharePoint to enable you to go through a step by step approach to build a business solution at the end of this three (3) days’ workshop.
During this morning and afternoon workshop, we will focus on the following topics:

  • Understand the SharePoint 2010 capabilities and find out how to:
    • Sites
  • Share documents with colleagues, manage projects with partners, and publish information to customers
    • Composites
  • Tools and components for creating do-it-yourself business solutions
    • Insights
  • Access to the information in databases, reports, and business applications

  • Document types, retention polices, and automatic content sorting

  • Intranet search, people search, and other capabilities
    • Basic administrative functionalities of SharePoint 2010
    • Understand the capabilities and limitations of each SharePoint Service
    • Discover the product community to fulfill the missing functionality

Introduction to SharePoint, behind the scene!

In this workshop, we will help you to better understand the required basic configuration needed for SharePoint 20007/2010.

Then we will present you a step by step approach to a specific solution for a business unit and teach you how to do the following:

  • Create a collaborative space for a department
  • How to add basic services for my department: Announcement, document library, collaboration, task, etc…
  • Create a document library and define specific configurations for best practices;
  • Configure Search tools with metadata
  • Create a custom view on various required content
  • Configure a Workflow with out-of-the-box tools from SharePoint
  • Create basic forms.

Planning your SharePoint Deployment Around Your Business

This non-technical session is targeted towards business users and focuses on planning a SharePoint intranet environment by identifying specific business needs rather than selecting technical features. Discussions revolve around the SharePoint implementation roadmap assessment; a workbook-style walkthrough that leads the business through the process of identifying the right SharePoint solutions for their organization.

Attendees will understand in great detail, how to plan and gather requirements for an implementation and maximize ROI for SharePoint.

Information Architecture & User Adoption

This workshop begins with an overview of the user adoption curve for SharePoint and provides visibility into avoiding many real-world architecture approaches that can serve to hinder your implementation rather than help it. Are you concerned about deploying your data in the right place?

You’ll become educated on a process that will guarantee your site architecture and information taxonomy mirror your business and their processes. You’ll maximize user adoption and improve ROI for your business simply by learning how to deploy the appropriate solution.

Planning for the New Services Application Architecture

This is by far the most important topic an Architect will learn. PERIOD! Students will begin this module with an architectural history of SharePoint. The lessons learned in this module will solidify your confidence in your architectural skill set by providing you with a roadmap for deploying enterprise level services throughout your SharePoint 2010 implementation.

Solution Design and Conception -  All day Workshop

Armed with case studies in hand, attendees will spend day #3 of the workshop collaborating in teams to conceptualize a SharePoint solution that meets their critical business needs.

Attendees will participate in workshops to complete the following tasks:

  • Extract document and list items from within a business process to create content types
  • Identify proper site architecture and information taxonomy components for the SharePoint solution
  • Identify enterprise level services required to support the solution and create a project plan
  • Outline an approach to maximize user adoption and communication
  • Propose and present the solution to the class
